Plans have been submitted to bring a former Nelson restaurant back into use as a takeaway.

Peak Architecture have entered the proposal on behalf of the applicant to convert the restaurant in Manchester Road after it ceased trading 10 years ago.

The property has belonged to the applicant since its closure, and the internal arrangement will remain closely related to the former restaurant use.

A planning statement said: “No extension, no change to the building envelope, and no new extraction route or roof flue are proposed; the existing extraction system and roof flue are retained in their current positions without alteration.

“The proposed use is assessed as a hot food takeaway, with customer seating retained internally.

"In physical and operational terms, the proposal therefore remains closely related to the premises' former restaurant use, while allowing a greater proportion of food to be sold for consumption off the premises.

“The expected balance of takeaway and dine-in trade, together with proposed opening hours and servicing arrangements, is expected to be 70 per cent take-out and 30 per cent dine-in, employing four full-time and two part-time members of staff, providing six jobs when operational.

“The proposal would bring a long-closed food premises back into active use and contribute to footfall and activity in Nelson town centre.”

The previous grey aluminium frames were green in colour, but the applicant is looking to replace them with orange, with the shutter also painted black.

Located within the Whitefield Conservation Area, the applicant argues that the changes will not impact the setting of any nearby listed buildings.

The planning statement added: “The proposed works are limited to a change of use with no extension and no alteration to the building envelope, a colour change to the retained ground floor shopfront frames, retention in situ of the existing shutter with a repainted finish, and replacement of the first floor windows to closely match the historic arched form.

“The existing extraction system and roof flue remain unaltered, so no new roof plant or visible service alteration arises from this application.”
