Police arrested a 17-year-old boy after a BMW was driven dangerously during an illegal car meet in Blackpool over the weekend.

The car meet involved more than 100 cars, with some vehicles racing and involved in anti-social behaviour.

Officers also dealt with similar behaviour in Preston and Pimbo, and disrupted the activity, leading attendees to leave Lancashire.

The BMW was pursued by a police car. People attempting to get in the way of the pursuit shouted “block it, block it!” as the police car approached.

Officers made contact with the BMW to force it to stop. The boy was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and obstructing a police officer.

The disruption resulted in five vehicles being seized. One motorist was reported for driving without due care and attention, while two motorists were dealt with for driving at excess speed.

Police said illegal car meets will not be tolerated in Lancashire. It warned that people who attend such events and commit offences may have their cars seized or spend a night in custody.

All available footage, including material shared on social media, is being reviewed to identify those involved in criminal activity.

This includes organisers, who police said can expect a visit from an officer.

Footage will continue to be assessed, with action taken against people identified as having committed offences at the event or gatherings across Lancashire by officers.
