Police have issued an appeal after a distressed dog was found near a canal in Blackburn.

The dog was found on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal near Moorgate Street in Blackburn at 4.30am today (October 4).

Police are appealing for help to identify the animal and trace its owner.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting log 274 of October 4, 2026.

A police spokesperson said: "Do you recognise this dog?

"The dog was found distressed on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, close to Moorgate Street in Blackburn, at 4.30am today.

"Work is ongoing to trace its owner.

"If that is you – or you know who it is – please call 101 and quote log 274 of 4th October 2026."
