The latest East Lancashire cases heard by magistrates'

The following magistrates’ court cases were heard on September 22, 23, and 24. 

September 22 

Bradley Farnell, 35, of Thorn Grove, Colne, was fined £220 by Harrogate Justice Centre for an offence of causing a vehicle to be left in a dangerous position. 

Farnell left a Vauxhall Combo Van in a dangerous position on the A65/B6265 Grassington Road in Skipton on January 16. 

Farnell’s licence was also endorsed with three penalty points. 

Oliver Heathcote, 52, of Barnwood Road, Earby, was disqualified from driving for six months at Harrogate Justice Centre for speeding. 

Heathcote was driving a Tesla on the A65 near Skipton on November 11 last year when he was caught speeding in an area covered by a temporary speed restriction. 

He was fined £666 and his licence was endorsed with six penalty points. 

September 23 

Mubeen Pathan, 30, of Higher Barn Street, Blackburn, was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months for failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements. 

Pathan failed to notify the police within three days of returning to the UK on May 8 as per the requirements of his order. 

Blackburn Magistrates’ Court ordered him to complete 15 rehabilitation days and pay costs of £239. 

Matthew Sampson, 32, of Bevan Place, Nelson, was given a one-year community order by Blackburn Magistrates’ Court for driving without due care and attention, driving without insurance, and driving without a licence. 

Sampson drove a Volkswagen Golf in Leeds Road, Nelson, without due care and attention on April 3 of this year. 

He was fined £399 and given a 12-month driving ban. 

Thomas Paton, 39, of Blackburn Road, Darwen, was given a one-year community order by Blackburn Magistrates’ Court for drink driving. 

Paton was stopped in Westwell Street, Darwen, on July 25 while riding a Daelim 125 Roadsport motorcycle.  

He had 112 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system, more than three times the legal limit of 35 mcg. 

Paton was further ordered to complete a six-month alcohol treatment programme and 20 rehabilitation days. He was fined £25 and banned from driving for three years and four months. 

Daniel Farmer, 32, of HMP Risley, Warrington, was given a conditional discharge by Blackburn Magistrates’ Court for an offence of possessing cannabis. 

Farmer was found to be in possession of cannabis in Blackburn on June 23. 

September 24 

Mohammed Gorsi, 47, of Bedford Street, Barrowford, was ordered to pay more than £1,500 by Burnley Magistrates’ Court for assaulting a man and damaging his phone. 

Gorsi assaulted a man in Nelson on March 30 by beating him, and then damaged the man’s phone screen. 

Gorsi was ordered to pay £1,570. 

Asif Hamid, 44, of Portland Street, Accrington, was given an 18-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months for three counts of assaulting an emergency worker. 

Hamid assaulted PCs Stanworth, Donoghue, and De Pledge in Rawtenstall on August 22. He also appeared for the offence of obstructing a constable, for which he was given no separate penalty, and driving whilst disqualified, for which his licence was endorsed with six points. 

Burnley Magistrates’ Court ordered him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and pay compensation of £100. 

Keith Kavanagh, 59, of Elizabeth Court, Padiham, was ordered to pay £200 compensation after burgling a business premises. 

Kavanagh entered Harry Garlick Ltd in Burnley Road, Padiham, as a trespasser on June 14 with intent to steal. 

There was no order for costs and no surcharge. 

Giovanni Mfuni, 28, of Stonyhurst Road, Blackburn, was jailed for 27 weeks at Burnley Magistrates’ Court for assaulting a man. 

Mfuni assaulted Lee Oddy on August 13, causing him bodily harm, to which he pleaded guilty. 

The court heard the offence was committed while Mfuni was already subject to a suspended sentence and that it was a “vicious assault.” 

They said it was his third breach of the suspended sentence order and that he had shown a “low level of compliance.” 

Mfuni was also ordered to pay £800 compensation. 

Jordan Watson, 41, of Reedley Marina, Burnley, was banned from driving for 12 months for drug driving. 

Watson was stopped in Preston New Road, Samlesbury, on March 14 while driving a Mitsubishi L200 vehicle, and had more than 400 microgrammes per litre of blood of a cocaine derivative in his system. 

Burnley Magistrates’ Court also fined him £162. 

Kelvin Parkinson, 38, of Moorfield Avenue, Ramsgreave, was given a one-year community order for racially abusing a woman at Blackburn railway station. 

Parkinson used threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour towards the woman on August 8. 

Burnley Magistrates’ Court ordered him to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and 15 rehabilitation days. 

Usman Khan, 31, of Fountain Street, Accrington, was fined £300 by Sheffield Magistrates’ Court for using threatening/abusive words. 

Khan used such words within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby in Sheffield on June 27. 

Khan pleaded guilty to the offence and must also pay £85 costs.
