A fighter jet was seen circling the skies of Lancashire today (September 25) and it captured the attention of residents.

A Eurofighter Typhoon, a type of military aircraft, was spotted over East Lancashire on a routine training flight covering areas including Padiham, Great Harwood and Accrington.

One resident said: "I heard it and knew it wasn’t a commercial aircraft."

Another said: "I could hear lots of low-flying aircraft."

Another said: "Been flying over Great Harwood all afternoon."

"I heard one but didn’t see," said another.

Lancashire Telegraph Camera Club member, Louis Bradley, shared a picture of the aircraft.

A spokesperson for BAE Systems, which has a base in Samlesbury, confirmed the aircraft was circling for training.

The spokesperson said: "This was a routine Typhoon training flight over parts of Lancashire undertaken by a BAE Systems test pilot.

"These flights ensure our aircrew remain qualified to support test and evaluation activities safely and effectively."
