A fresh bid has been launched to build a home on a field behind houses in Barrow after councillors rejected similar plans last year.

The application seeks permission in principle for a single self-build home on land to the rear of a house in Bramley View, on the edge of the Ribble Valley village.

The site sits outside Barrow's settlement boundary, in an area classed as open countryside.

However, the applicant argues the plot is surrounded by existing development and forms a natural extension to the village.

A previous application for one dwelling on the site was refused by Ribble Valley Council in 2025.

The new submission claims planning rules have changed since then and argues the proposal would help meet demand for self-build housing in the borough.

Planning documents state the proposal is for a bespoke home built for an individual occupier rather than a larger housing development.

The applicant says the scheme would provide an extra home while remaining closely linked to the existing village, with bus stops on Clitheroe Road a short distance away.

The documents also note that Lancashire County Council previously raised no objections on highway grounds when considering the earlier application.

Detailed plans for the appearance and layout of the house have not yet been submitted and would be considered at a later stage if permission in principle is granted.

Ribble Valley Council will decide the application at a future date.
