Search the Public Notice PortalFylde residents are being urged to have their say on a new Local Plan that sets out where thousands of new homes could be built across the borough over the next 16 years.
Fylde Council has launched a six-week public consultation on its draft Local Plan to 2042, which includes provision for 6,656 new homes to meet housing targets set by the Government.
The consultation opened on Friday, September 18, and will run until 5pm on Friday, October 30.
According to the council, the housing requirement has been imposed through the Government's standard method for calculating housing need and was not chosen locally.
The authority says it must review and update its Local Plan in line with national policy.
If a new plan is not adopted by December 2026, existing housing policies could be considered out of date, reducing the council's ability to resist speculative development proposals.
The draft plan proposes directing 90 per cent of new housing development to what the council describes as the borough's four most sustainable strategic locations.
It also states there will be no strategic release of Green Belt land as part of the plan.
Councillor Gavin Harrison, chairman of Fylde Council's Planning Committee, said the consultation was an opportunity for residents to influence how the borough responds to national housing requirements.
He said: "We are required to plan for higher numbers set by Government, and the draft plan aims to manage that pressure in a way that protects Fylde's character and directs development to the most appropriate locations.
"I encourage residents to review the proposals and tell us what matters most to them."
Council leader Karen Buckley said the review was necessary to ensure the authority complied with Government rules on housing delivery.

She added: "It's vital that residents have their say on how these mandatory requirements are handled locally. This consultation is your opportunity to influence the plan before it goes any further."
All comments submitted during the consultation will be passed to the Secretary of State as part of the examination process.
The draft plan, supporting evidence and consultation documents can be viewed on the Fylde Council website, with residents able to submit comments online until the consultation closes on October 30.
