Retrospective plans submitted for Colne car sales site

Kirkwells submitted an application on behalf of the applicant to change the use of the land adjacent to Bankfield Mill, in Greenfield Road.

The site sits within the Primet Bridge Conservation Area, and the applicant argues that the change of use is complementary to the adjacent businesses.

Trees have also been planted on the perimeter of the site.

A planning statement said: “The site currently has an unkempt look and the bringing into use of this site will not have any detrimental effect on the significance of the Conservation Area. 

“Indeed, it will improve and enhance the Conservation Area through the use of the site.”

Works will include the hard surfacing of the unused area for sales and car storage.

Access to the site will remain, and the applicant says it is in a sustainable location with access to a number of modes of transport.

A planning statement added: “The application site is located within the defined settlement boundary and adjacent to existing similar businesses and surrounded by employment development.

“The application site has safe access and egress onto and through the highway network from Greenfield Road onto the A56 at Primet Bridge. This is suitable for the amount and type of vehicles proposed.

“There is sufficient capacity within the site to accommodate parking for the existing users of Bankfield Mill adjacent and the use of the area for car sales and car storage.”

The application also pointed to the site being 350m from the A56 at Primet Bridge, and is 550m from Colne railway station.

In addition, appropriate interceptors will be installed by the developer to prevent pollutants from entering the watercourse.

Cycling storage will also be provided on site.
