More footage of dangerous driver Talib Khan on M65

Judge Daniel Prowse described Talib Khan's driving as the worst case of dangerous driving he had ever seen that did not end in death, injury or damage.

Khan, 19, of Hill Street, Crawshawbooth, was given a suspended sentence at Burnley Crown Court earlier this month, a hearing which the Lancashire Telegraph attended and reported on at the time.

Lancashire Police have now released a full video of Khan's shocking driving, which started at around 8.45pm on July 22 when officers on mobile patrol sighted a black BMW 320 being driven by Khan alongside a blue Seat Leon.

The vehicles appeared to be racing, and Khan said through his barrister this was not pre-arranged and had started because he assumed the other driver wanted to race after he beeped his horn at him.

The footage shows a course of serious dangerous driving, with officers reaching speeds of up to 150mph while still not being able to gain any distance on Khan, who had four passengers in the car, including two 15-year-olds and his siblings.

Police initially signalled for Khan to exit at Junction 4, near Ewood Park, but he continued before exiting at Junction 5 for Blackburn Hospital, though he entered the M65 again from the roundabout.

Khan was seen undertaking vehicles, reaching incredibly high speeds, and weaving in and out of traffic, including a near miss where he just squeezed through a gap between an HGV and a car.

Khan continued along the M65 until he exited at Junction 8, travelling at 130mph down the slip road towards the roundabout.

At the roundabout, the vehicle was stopped using a police stinger but Khan continued onto the A56 Accrington Bypass, still at speeds in excess of 100mph.

He began to slow as the tyre disintegrated, and he eventually came to a stop at the top of the hill as the bypass heads towards Rising Bridge.

Khan was arrested and cautioned, and confirmed he only had a provisional licence and was not insured to drive the vehicle.

At the sentencing, Judge Prowse said: “Only because of the evasive actions taken by others were you, your passengers, and others not killed. In fact, it is nothing short of a miracle.

“I cannot care less whether you kill yourself driving in this sort of fashion. You put the lives of innocent road users at risk by what is the worst course of dangerous driving that did not result in serious damage, injury, or death I have ever seen.”

Khan was sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for 20 months, and was ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work. He was banned from driving for two-and-a-half years.

Inspector Danny Clough, of Lancashire Police's road policing unit, said: "Talib Khan made a decision that day to drive dangerously. That decision could have had a far more devastating outcome. Thankfully no one was hurt by Khan's recklessness.

“Watching the dashcam footage of the pursuit will understandably be shocking to some. If you are someone who thinks it is ok to drive dangerously, watch the video. This standard of driving is not and never will be acceptable. It is criminal, it is dangerous and it does take lives.

“I hope that Khan can now reflect on his actions and realise just how dangerous they were.

“If you spot someone driving dangerously, please report it to us. We will continue to tackle dangerous driving on our roads and will always endeavour to make Lancashire’s roads safe for our residents.”
