Ormskirk Post Office is set to close later this year as part of a restructuring programme affecting branches operated by retail partner TG Jones.
The Post Office has confirmed that the branch at 13 Moor Street, Ormskirk, will close on Wednesday, October 21, after TG Jones announced plans to restructure its business.
In a statement shared on social media, West Lancashire MP Ashley Dalton said the news would be a concern for local residents.
She said: "It's extremely disappointing to hear that the Ormskirk Post Office will be closing, despite previous assurances that 'no decisions had been made'.
"I know this will be a worry for many of you, particularly following the closure of Burscough Bridge Post Office.
"However, I'm pleased to hear that the Post Office has received some expressions of interest from people to operate an Ormskirk branch and I'm hopeful that we will soon have a Post Office in Ormskirk once again."
In a letter to customers, the Post Office said it remained committed to maintaining services in the town and was reviewing applications from potential operators.
Kieran Gibson, corporate account lead at the Post Office, said: "The provision of a Post Office service to our customers in the area is important to us, and we are working hard to find a solution to continue offering Post Office services to the local community in Ormskirk.
"We are currently in the early stages of reviewing applications to run the Post Office branch, and we will provide a further update on our plans as soon as possible.
"In exploring this, it is important that any future service is sustainable for the person operating the service, and for Post Office Limited."
The organisation said customers could continue to access services at alternative nearby branches once the Moor Street site closes.
These include the Post Office at Edge Hill University on St Helens Road, around a mile away, which is open daily from 7.30am until 6pm, and Long Lane Post Office on Holborn Hill, approximately 1.2 miles from the town centre branch.

The Post Office has apologised for the inconvenience caused and said it would provide further updates once plans for a replacement service in Ormskirk become clearer.
The closure follows the announcement of a restructuring plan by TG Jones, which operates a number of Post Office branches within its stores.
The Post Office said it had already received expressions of interest from potential operators and remained hopeful of securing a future branch for the town.
