More details have been released about an ITV drama, partly filmed in Darwen and Hoddlesden, that is set to air later this year.

The upcoming six-part series, Adultery, was partly filmed in Darwen and Hoddlesden, Lancashire, with production crews spotted in the area last November and December.

Written by BAFTA-winning writer Danny Brocklehurst, the drama stars Dominic Cooper and Romola Garai and tells the story of a passionate affair that threatens to upend the lives of two families.

Production crews were seen filming in Hoddlesden in December, and in Darwen on November 5, with activity centred around Bank Street and Church Bank Street.

Long Hey Lane was closed at its junction with Jackson Heights to accommodate the production.

Adultery is produced by Poison Pen Studios and directed by Will Sinclair and Daniel O’Hara.

The cast also includes Shelley Conn, Matthew McNulty, Andrew Knott, James Murray, and Charley Webb.

The series raises questions about class, grief, and the effects of social media.

It follows Tom Kirkman and Beth Brookes as they embark on an affair that jeopardises their families and challenges their relationships.

Tom’s 15-year-old daughter Jess is also experiencing young love with schoolmate Ollie, adding another layer of complexity to the story.

When Tom meets Ollie’s mother Beth under unexpected circumstances, the lives of both families become dangerously intertwined.

Polly Hill, director of drama at ITV, said: "Danny’s brilliant scripts will have an audience hooked into this adulterous story from the start.

"At its heart though it’s about love, and I’m excited to have an addictive love story on ITV, and to be working with Danny and Ben and the team at Poison Pen Studios."

The drama is set to air on ITV within the next three months, though an exact broadcast date has not yet been announced.

Executive producers for Poison Pen Studios are Ben Stephenson, Preethi Mavahalli, and Luke Woellhaf, alongside Danny Brocklehurst and Polly Hill for ITV.

A teaser trailer for the series has already been released, building anticipation among viewers.

Councillor Phil Riley, leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: "It’s always exciting to see Blackburn with Darwen on television, spotting familiar locations as we enjoy some high-profile dramas.

"As a borough, we have much to offer television production companies, whether they’re looking for beautiful rural areas, small villages, or more urban areas, particularly with traditional terraced housing.

"We also welcome the investment in local businesses that comes with a film crew spending time in our borough."
