A restaurant and pub chain will shut all its sites this week as part of a major hospitality restructure, including one in Lancashire.
Cookhouse + Pub currently operates 14 sites across the UK but will close its doors as part of Whitbread’s decision to shut all of its standalone branded restaurants.
Other chains affected include:
- Bar + Block (20) - Closing on September 3
- Table Table (32) - September 3
- Brewers Fayre (89 locations) - September 7
- Beefeater (106) - September 10
The closures follow Whitbread’s announcement in April of plans to cut around 3,800 jobs in the UK and Ireland as part of a five-year strategy to save £250 million.
Whitbread will replace the closed sites with restaurants inside Premier Inn hotels.
Whitbread chief executive Dominic Paul previously said: “We always challenge ourselves to improve and, in light of significant cost increases in the form of business rates and national insurance, as well as the implied market discount to our inherent value, we’ve looked hard at the options open to us to maximise value creation over the medium and long-term.
“This plan will transform Whitbread into a higher-margin, higher-returning pure-play hotel business.”
Why are so many UK pubs closing?
Cookhouse + Pub's Blackpool restaurant closing this week
All 14 Cookhouse + Pub restaurants will close for good on September 3, including one in Lancashire.
Blackpool will lose its Three Piers restaurant on Talbot Road (FY1 1LF) on Thursday.
It comes as the restaurant has proved popular with customers, earning a 4.6 rating out of five on Tripadvisor.
Whitbread to close 2 Blackpool restaurants this year
In 2026, Whitbread plans to close a variety of Lancashire restaurants across its chains.
This includes two in Blackpool:
- Three Piers (Cookhouse + Pub) - Talbot Road (FY1 1LF)
- Red Lion (Beefeater) - Devonshire Road (FY2 0AR)
The Three Piers will close this week, while the Red Lion pub will close next week, on September 10.

However, there are no Bar + Block steakhouses or Brewers Fayre pubs in Blackpool.
There will be Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurant closures in the county.
