Police have made an arrest following reports a man was seen carrying knives in Burnley.

Armed officers were called on Sunday just after 1pm to Grasmere Avenue after people reported seeing ‘a man in the street with knives taped to his hands’.

A 56-year-old remains in custody, police said.

A police spokesperson said: “At 1.18pm yesterday (August 30) we were called to Grasmere Street, Burnley, following a report that a man had been seen in the street with knives taped to his hands.

“Armed officers attended and arrested a 56-year-old man from Burnley on suspicion of Possession of Knife/Bladed Article. He remains in custody at this time.

“Anyone with information or footage is asked to call 101 and quote log 743 of 30th August 2026.”
