The body of a man was discovered in a wooded area in Burnley yesterday (August 27), police have said.

Officers were called to an area off Church Street, close to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, at around 11.20am after a report that a body had been found.

Officers and other emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said while no formal identification has taken place, they believe they know who the man is, and his next of kin have been informed.

There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances, the police added.

A file will be prepared for the coroner.
