Blackburn man charged after police car and van set on fire

A man has appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with setting fire to a police car and a police van.

The vehicles were badly damaged after being set alight in the early hours of Sunday.

Shane Gilbert, 36, of Preston New Road, Blackburn, was charged with arson to police vehicles belonging to Lancashire Constabulary on Ainsworth Street, Blackburn.

He gave no indication of plea and the case was sent to Preston Crown Court where the defendant will appear on September 23.

He was remanded in custody until that date.
