A Burnley businessman celebrated his 80th birthday by scaling Pen-y-Ghent as part of a Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge to raise money for charity.
Bill Chambers, who founded industrial cleaning equipment specialists Beta Solutions, raised £2,554 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
Bill made the 2,277ft (694 metres) climb alongside his son Ben, the Rossendale Road-based company’s sales director.
With them was a staff team, sponsored by family, friends, clients and suppliers.
Along with Ben, the group went on to complete the challenge by summiting the other two peaks of Whernside and Ingleborough.
Ben said: “Dad was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2024 and had to undergo radiotherapy at Rosemere Cancer Centre as part of his successful treatment.
“As a thank you, we have been supporting Rosemere Cancer Foundation ever since. Dad did great climbing Pen-y-ghent.
"I hope it’s something I can still do at his age! Many thanks to everyone who sponsored us.”
Since 2025 and including the company’s latest donation, Beta Solutions has raised £8,511 for the charity, with a staff team having taken part in last September’s Born Survivor mud run and obstacle course race in Gisburn.
Colleagues, including Ben, family and friends also joined Bill in the preceding April’s Walk in the Dark, an annual 11-mile night-time trek organised by Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
In addition, the company has also gifted a new vacuum cleaner worth more than £200 to the charity for its upcoming winter raffle.

“We are very grateful to the company and all its supporters for their fantastic donation, which comes on top of already incredible support.”
