Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Sondre Tronstad is closing in on his next move.
Tronstad departed Ewood Park at the expiry of his contract over the summer to return to Scandinavia for family reasons.
The 30-year-old’s final season in blue and white was cut short after suffering a cruel ACL injury in February, and he was forced to watch from the sidelines as Rovers battled to stay in the Championship.
As per reports, Lancashire Telegraph understands that Tronstad is set to sign for Norwegian club SK Brann.
The midfielder is still recovering from his injury but could return before the end of the Eliteserien season.
Brann are currently sixth in the table, having taken 22 points from their opening 16 games in the league.
Tronstad spent three years in Lancashire, arriving from Vitesse Arnhem in the summer of 2023 and going on to play more than 100 times for the club.
The midfielder’s blend of skill and tough tackling quickly made him a fan favourite around Ewood Park.
He helped Rovers secure safety under John Eustace before narrowly missing out on the play-offs under Valerien Ismael the following season. The Norwegian also picked up the club’s Player of the Year award 12 months ago.
Tronstad didn’t get the farewell he deserved due to his injury, which he played through for the best part of two matches before learning the full extent.
Following his Rovers exit, he told Lancashire Telegraph: "It's been difficult, obviously. As everyone knows, I have a great relationship with the fans. They mean a lot to me.
"When I had my walk around after the final game, I was really crying, to be honest. It was emotional because the love I felt from the fans was special and it means a lot to me. I just want to thank them.
"I can't thank them enough but I think they know how much I appreciate them and their support. It was tough, obviously, but life goes on.
"It's always a tough decision, but you also need to look at everything behind. It's not only my career, you also need to look at the family as well."
