A Skelmersdale man has been charged with firearms offences and making an explosive substance following a police investigation involving bomb disposal experts.
Lancashire Police said officers were called at around 9am on Wednesday, 29 July, to reports that a man had been seen in possession of a rifle in the Beechwood Court area of Skelmersdale.
Officers attended and arrested a 47-year-old local man on suspicion of possession of a firearm.
The force then carried out searches at a property in Birkrig, Skelmersdale, on Wednesday and Thursday, with support from colleagues in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, John Pohlod, 47, of Birkrig, Skelmersdale, has now been charged with making an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or cause injury.
He has also been charged with two offences of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear, and affray.

Pohlod was remanded into custody and is due to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court today (31 July).
Police have appealed for anyone with information that could assist their investigation to come forward.

The force added that, due to active legal proceedings, comments had been disabled on its social media post "so not to prejudice future court hearings".
