Merseyside Police has announced it will hold a three-minute silence today to mark two years since the Southport attack that claimed the lives of three young girls.

Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, were tragically killed in the attack on July 29, 2024.

In a tribute shared on social media, the force said: "Today we pause to remember the light, the kindness, and the joy that Alice, Bebe and Elsie brought into this world."

"We will never forget that day or the impact it has had on those whose lives were taken, their loved ones, those who survived and those who responded."

Police said flags would be lowered across Merseyside at 3pm in solidarity with the wider community.

The tribute ends: "Alice, Bebe and Elsie – forever in our hearts."

Axel Rudakubana, who was living in Banks, West Lancashire, at the time of the attack, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 52 years after admitting the murders of Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven.

He was recently transferred from prison to Broadmoor psychiatric hospital following a clinical assessment under the Mental Health Act.
