The A56 is closed between Rising Bridge and Huncoat for emergency barrier repairs after an earlier crash, National Highways has warned.

The dual-carriageway is shut in the northbound direction, while lane two of the southbound carriageway is also closed.

National Highways' area team is on the scene to undertake emergency repairs.

A diversion route is in place, with road users advised to follow the solid triangle diversion symbol on road signs:

  • At A56/A680 Rising Bridge Roundabout, take first exit onto A680 Manchester Road northbound
  • At A680/A679 junction in Accrington, turn right onto A679 Burnley Road northbound
  • At A679/A56 western roundabout, take first exit to rejoin A56 northbound

Drivers are warned to allow extra time for their journey.
