During hot weather, seaside resorts and local pools can become packed with people.

If you would prefer to relax and cool down in a more secluded spot, you might enjoy wild swimming, where you can enjoy the surrounding countryside as well as the cool water.

The Telegraph has released a list of the best wild swimming spots in the UK, with Ullswater Lake in the Lake District being one of the picks.

The Another Place Hotel offers special wild swimming sessions where you can choose from an introductory session to a stargazing night swim and full moon swims.

What is wild swimming at Ullswater Lake like?

On the lake, The Telegraph said: "I will always have a soft spot for the Lake District’s second-largest lake after growing up nearby and leaping in year-round.

"Viewed from the rocky top of Hallin Fell, it appears to be Z-shaped, lying in the 10,000-year-old grave of a retreating glacier.

"Back in 2012, my brother Robbie also swam its 7.3-mile length, using a sluggish six-hour breaststroke.

"The wood-fired Fahrenhut Sauna arrived in recent years, handmade and rolled into Park Foot Holiday Park.

"Now, you can charge lakeward down a jetty, trailing steam after a skin-reddening stint.

"Ullswater is a short six-mile drive from Penrith Station, reachable by car, train, and bus.

"The most common lakeside entry points are northern Pooley Bridge – a charming place to stop, rich in pubs – and little Glenridding in the south."

For families, the Another Place Hotel offers a wild swimming adventure around the bay of Kailpot where you will take a boat up the lake to jump off the Kailpot crag into the "beautiful" water.

The hotel also has a three-day swim break where you will explore the different bays and islands around Ullswater Valley.

These experiences run throughout the winter and summer and allow you to enjoy a break away from daily life.

What do visitors of Ullswater Lake say?
