Police have provided an update following reports of two disturbances in Blackpool in the early hours of today (July 23).
Two men have been arrested as police investigate reports of two serious assaults in the town, which is currently hosting the World Matchplay Darts competition at Winter Gardens, attracting hundreds of fans and revellers each night.
The incidents reportedly took place at around 3am in the Queen Street, Abingdon Street, and Talbot Road areas.
The first assault is reported to have happened outside Bar 19 in Queen Street. A man in his 30s suffered a stab-type wound to his hand.
He has since been discharged from hospital.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.
He remains in custody.
A second assault is reported to have occurred slightly later after police responded to a disturbance in Talbot Road.
A man in his 20s sustained serious head injuries and remains in hospital.
A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.
He remains in custody.
The police spokesperson said: "We know that there were a number of people in the area at the time of the disturbance, and there will be people we haven’t yet spoken to. If this was you, it’s really important that you get in touch with us.
"Equally, if you have footage of the assaults themselves, or of the disturbances beforehand, we are asking you to do the responsible thing and pass it on.
"We know that this will be concerning to hear about, but we want to reassure you that we believe these incidents to be isolated and not connected to each other.
"As a precaution, and so you can approach them if you have any concerns or information, we have increased patrols in the area.

"It is easy when something like this happens to speculate amongst yourselves and online, but we do ask that you refrain from doing so.
"There are real people affected by this and a live investigation is ongoing, and it is really important that any information or footage is provided to us through the appropriate channels."
