Families looking for something to do during the school holidays will have extra opportunities to explore one of Lancashire's best-rated attractions after Lancaster Maritime Museum announced extended summer opening hours.
The museum, based on the city's historic St George's Quay, will open every Tuesday for six weeks throughout the summer holidays, in addition to its usual opening days.
Visitors will be able to explore the attraction from 10.30am to 4pm on July 21 and 28 and August 4, 11, 18, and 25.
The announcement comes as the museum continues to attract strong reviews from visitors, earning a 4.4-star "Very Good" rating from more than 240 reviews on TripAdvisor.
One visitor described the museum as the "bargain of the decade," praising both the value for money and the range of exhibits on offer.
They said: "This must be the bargain of the decade. Children and local residents free, adults from outside the area just a fiver.
"Having served with the Royal Navy and Reserves for 38 years, this was a must-see in Lancaster. And there is a LOT to see."
Located in the former Custom House on St George's Quay, the museum tells the story of Lancaster and Morecambe's long relationship with the sea, fishing industry, canals, and maritime trade.
Another visitor praised the museum's exploration of Lancaster's complex past.
They wrote: "Lovely Georgian building, full of interesting exhibits about the port of Lancaster.
"We had no idea that Lancaster was once involved in the historic slave trade.
"Well presented displays to bring to life the cockle fishing industry and the history of the River Lune."
The museum occupies historic buildings dating back to 1764 and offers exhibits exploring the Port of Lancaster, life around Morecambe Bay, fishing traditions, and the city's role in international trade.
A third reviewer said: "Lancaster Maritime Museum is a really informative museum about the growth of both Lancaster and Morecambe through their ties to the fishing industry.
"Housed in a wonderful-looking building that was constructed in 1764 and built from designs by architect Richard Gillow, it was in fact the customs house until 1882.
"The museum itself is superb."
Alongside its permanent displays, the museum will be running new "Beside the Seaside" craft sessions during the school holidays in partnership with Eden Project Morecambe.
Families can also pick up free children's trails while exploring the venue.

Announcing the additional opening dates, museum staff said: "Good news! "We've got extra opening at the Maritime Museum every Tuesday for six weeks in the school summer holidays.
"Drop in for a visit or bring the whole family and get creative with our new 'Beside the Seaside' craft sessions, in partnership with the Eden Project Morecambe."
Lancaster district residents can visit the museum free of charge, while admission for visitors from outside the district costs £5 for adults and is free for children under 18.
