A Blackburn man has been fined and ordered to pay costs after dropping a cigarette in County Durham.

Alexandru Florian Velicu, of Stanstead Street, was fined £220 by Peterlee Magistrates' Court at a hearing on Tuesday, July 14.

The charge states that on February 24, Velicu dropped or otherwise deposited the cigarette and left it on the road of Ashmore Terrace, Wheatley Hill - a village between Durham and Hartlepool.

Velicu's case was proved through the Single Justice Procedure by magistrates.

As well as the fine, he was ordered to pay an £88 victim surcharge and £130 costs, taking the total he must pay to £438.
