A high street comeback is on the cards for Blackburn after Bodycare confirmed it is returning to The Mall less than a year after the retailer closed all of its UK stores.

This week, with the slogan ‘We’re so back’, the business announced it would be reopening its stores at six locations.

They said: “Shoppers can look forward to a brand-new ‘Bodycare Studio’ format, including in-store demonstration zones, feature screens, live broadcast studios and creator spaces as part of a wider digital-first strategy.”

Bodycare’s Blackburn branch closed at the end of September last year after the company entered administration. At the time, administrators said the business was “no longer viable” due to stock shortages and rising operating costs.

The closure formed part of a nationwide programme that saw the retailer’s remaining 56 stores shut and 444 jobs lost, with Blackburn among several Lancashire towns affected. The vacant unit was later replaced by a Savers.

However, the Bodycare brand was acquired out of administration in October 2025, with its new owners pledging to rebuild the business from its Lancashire roots and bring stores and jobs back to the high street.

Bodycare's managing director David Stern said: "Since the acquisition of Bodycare, the team has reimagined both the in-store experience and the brand's digital presence.

"The response from the industry to date has reinforced our confidence to scale quickly and we are looking forward to welcoming customers back as soon as possible."

Blackburn has now been selected as one of the first locations for the retailer’s new “studio”-style concept, alongside Merry Hill in Dudley, Derbion in Derby, The Moor in Sheffield, Highcross in Leicester, and St Johns in Leeds.

The updated stores are expected to offer a refreshed shopping experience while maintaining the value-focused prices that made the chain popular with customers.

Industry reports suggest the first locations were chosen based on the strong performance of their previous stores, underlining the retailer’s confidence in Blackburn town centre.
