Four Nelson streets have closed for roadworks.

The closure, which came into force on Monday, affects Bradshaw Street, Ripon Street, Rear 2 to 34 Ripon Street, and Percy Street.

Roads are expected to remain shut until September 29.

Lancashire County Council has confirmed that the prohibition is necessary to allow for carriageway and footway improvements.

The closure on Bradshaw Street applies from its junction with Beaufort Street to its junction with Rear 3 to 83 Percy Street.

On Ripon Street, the restriction runs from its junction with Bradshaw Street to outside 20 Ripon Street.

Rear 2 to 34 Ripon Street is closed from its junction with Bradshaw Street to the rear of 26 Percy Street.

Percy Street is closed from outside 26 Percy Street to outside 53 Percy Street.

The restrictions will only be in force when indicated by traffic signs on site.

Work is described as weather dependent and may be carried out on any of the dates within the specified period.

An alternative route for affected traffic is via Princess Street, Hibson Road, Beaufort Street and Bentley Street, and vice versa.

The notice confirms that vehicular access for residents, as well as emergency services, will be maintained "whenever and wherever possible".
