A traditional Blackburn chippy, famed for its ‘fantastic food', has won the Lancashire Telegraph Best Chippy competition.

Bigger Fish to Fry, in Crosby Road, was named the winner from a shortlist of 10 of East Lancashire's best chip shops.

The shop is based in the heart of the community and has been serving a range of top meals for years.

As well as its famous fish and chips, the chippy has some unusual items on the menu, including the battered chocolate and battered pea fritter.

The chippy has attempted to keep prices at a competitive level to support its loyal customers and remains one of the most popular destinations for anyone wanting traditional fish and chips.

The chippy is also known for handing out free vouchers to charities and offering freebies such as black pudding on Fridays.

Manager and owner Jason Geal said: “A huge thank you to all of our amazing customers and the local community for your incredible support and for voting for us.

“We're absolutely delighted to have won, and we couldn't have done it without each and every one of you.

"Your loyalty, encouragement, and continued support mean the world to us.

“Thank you for choosing us, recommending us, and being part of our journey.

"We're proud to serve such a fantastic community and look forward to welcoming you all for many more fish and chips and more.

“From everyone at Bigger Fish to Fry – thank you.”

Bigger Fish to Fry also operates a second location in Shorrock Lane, which opened in January, and has been named a finalist in four categories at the English Fish and Chip Awards.

These include best fish fryer, best fish and chips in the North West, best fish and chip shop in the North West, and most historic fish and chip shop.

This year’s shortlist for the Lancashire Telegraph’s competition included 10 chip shops from across East Lancashire, with entries from Blackburn, Accrington, and Burnley.
