Travellers who had set up camp on Bispham Gala Field, near Blackpool, have now left the site following formal action by the local authority.

Lancashire Police and the council issued legal paperwork to those present earlier today, after which the group vacated the area.

There are concerns about rubbish left behind at the field, though arrangements are already in place for it to be cleared.

Officials thanked residents for their patience while the situation was resolved, stressing that due process had to be followed in dealing with the encampment.

In a statement shared on social media, Lancashire Police wrote: "We would like to update you regarding the travellers who had pitched up on Bispham Gala Field.

"The council, along with ourselves, issued paperwork to them today and they have now left the area.

"We are aware there is some rubbish that has been left and this is going to be cleaned up as soon as possible by our partners at the council.

"Thank you for your patience whilst we followed the correct legal procedures in this matter."
