A Lancashire author has published a new novel described as a celebration of 'lives still being lived to the full'.

John Uttley is a former finance director of the National Grid Group who was awarded an OBE in 1991.

Now in his eighties, Mr Uttley has released The End of the Line, a stand-alone novel.

He said: "The End of the Line is a celebration of lives still being lived to the full as the Grim Reaper makes his plans."

The story centres on Sheila and Jim, who reconnect as old flames after the loss of their spouses.

While Sheila is surrounded by her large family, Jim is left only with memories.

Despite their grief, the couple find connection and possibility in later life. It's set in John's favoured territory, north of the Ribble, in green pastures, and south in cabbage fields.

They also befriend a young couple whose romance is destined for disappointment.

Through this intergenerational friendship, the two pairs help each other navigate love, loss, and the challenges of life.
