Lancashire people living with dementia are set to benefit from a £2,000 donation raised by Tesco colleagues and customers at a community fundraising event in Haslingden.

Stores across East Lancashire came together to host an afternoon tea at Haslingden Cricket Club in support of Beacon Dementia and Wellbeing, which supports people living with dementia, their carers and families.

The event brought together the community for an afternoon of entertainment and fundraising.

Tesco donated the food for the event, which was prepared by Relish in Haslingden.

Bury Hospice provided tableware, while local businesses donated raffle prizes to help boost fundraising efforts.

Wendy Howarth, community champion at Tesco Rossendale, Haslingden Superstore, and Tesco Bury Superstore, said the event was “filled with music, dancing and laughter” as it brought the community together for an important cause.

She said: “The afternoon tea was a wonderful event filled with music, dancing and laughter. It brought people together and showcased the incredible spirit of the local community, while raising money for a cause that means so much to so many. What a truly special day.”

Special guests included the Worshipful Mayor of Rossendale, Cllr Michelle Smith, alongside the Mayor of Hyndburn, Cllr Josh Allen, and Mayoress Robyn.

Entertainment was provided by the Rossendale Male Voice Choir and the Rossendale Ukulele Band.

The £2,000 raised will help Beacon Dementia and Wellbeing continue providing support and services for people affected by dementia across the area.

Claire de Silva, head of community at Tesco, said supporting local communities remained a key priority for the retailer.

She said: “We are delighted to help such a worthwhile cause. Tesco are committed to supporting communities and charities throughout the country with fundraising initiatives like this one that create a lasting positive impact for residents.”
