A Blackburn company established by a young entrepreneur just 10 years ago has expanded into a major new base in the town.
HA Upholstery officially opened its new 70,000 sq ft manufacturing facility at Whitebirk Industrial Estate in Cunliffe Road on Saturday.
The opening event was attended by friends, family, local councillors, business leaders and the MP for Blackburn, Adnan Hussain.
Founded by Haseeb Ali, HA Upholstery opened its first manufacturing facility in Blackburn in 2019.
Haseeb, now 26, has overseen the company’s expansion into a 70,000 sq ft facility which will employ 70 people, with plans to create a further 25 jobs as production capacity increases.
HA Upholstery, which operates on a trade-only basis and does not sell directly to the public, manufactures sofas, armchairs and upholstered furniture for trade customers throughout the UK and Ireland, supplying retailers, hotels, student accommodation providers and other commercial sectors.
The company said the new facility will allow it to invest in new machinery, improve production efficiency, increase manufacturing capacity and create more jobs in and around Blackburn.
Haseeb, director of HA Upholstery, said: "As someone who was born and raised in Blackburn, it was important to me that we continued investing in the town and creating opportunities for local people. We have looked at various options over the years, but Blackburn is home and we wanted our growth to benefit the local community.
“What started as a small business selling sofas has grown into a manufacturing operation supplying customers across the UK and Ireland. I am incredibly proud of what our team has achieved and grateful to everyone who has supported us on the journey.
“This new facility represents the next chapter for HA Upholstery. It gives us the space to invest in new technology, improve efficiency, increase production and create more jobs.
"We are ambitious about the future and committed to continuing our growth whilst maintaining the quality and service that our customers have come to expect."
Cllr Quesir Mahmood said: “It is great to see the expansion of this business into these fantastic new facilities, this will enable further growth for the business and create more jobs in the manufacturing sector.
“Blackburn with Darwen has a strong history in manufacturing and I am delighted to see this business expand. We wish them well in their new facility and look forward to hearing more about their growth in the future.”
