A former British Olympic support coach and a coach who helped guide Great Britain’s Paralympic swimmers to success will be sharing his expertise as part of a free summer swimming school in Darwen.

Darwen Masters Swimming Club has announced a series of specialist coaching sessions at Darwen Leisure Centre for adults aged 18 and over.

Swimmers will be receiving guidance from an experienced coaching team including Craig Grant, Rory Bernard, and guest coach Dave Evitts.

Evitts has enjoyed a distinguished coaching career, helping Great Britain’s Paralympic swimmers achieve success at the highest level.

He became a Commonwealth Games coach for England in 1998 and travelled to Sydney in 2000 as a support coach for the British Olympic team.

The free summer school programme is designed to help adult swimmers improve their technique, refine their strokes and build confidence in the water.

Sessions will focus on stroke refinement, starts, turns and finishes, technique development, and overall swimming skills.

The summer school dates are:

To get the most from the sessions, participants should be able to swim 50 lengths continuously and be confident swimming front crawl alongside at least one other stroke.

Darwen Masters says the sessions are suitable for adults looking to improve their swimming in a supportive environment, whether for fitness, competition or personal development.

Places can be reserved by leaving contact details at Darwen Leisure Centre reception or by contacting Darwen Masters Swimming Club through its Facebook page.

The summer school programme is being supported by The Movement Fund.
