Police are urging motorists to remain vigilant following a series of thefts targeting Fiat 500 cars in and around Skelmersdale in West Lancashire.
A number of incidents have been reported locally, as well as across the border in Greater Manchester, with officers noting a clear pattern in how the vehicles are being targeted and stolen.
In each case, the cars have been broken into by smashing a window before offenders gain entry and tamper with the ignition.
The ignition barrel is then broken and wires exposed, allowing the vehicle to be started. The cars are typically abandoned after being taken.
Residents who own Fiat 500s are being advised to take extra precautions to protect their vehicles.

Among the measures recommended are the use of steering wheel locks, which can act as a visible deterrent, as well as installing tracking devices or security tags.
Where possible, drivers are also encouraged to park vehicles in garages or other secure, locked spaces.
Officers are also reminding motorists not to leave valuables inside their cars and to ensure keys are kept out of sight and away from doors and windows. Drivers should double-check that all doors and windows are locked when leaving their vehicle.
The use of dashcams or home CCTV systems is also being encouraged, both to deter potential offenders and to help police identify those responsible.
