An Oswaldtwistle chippy which is famous for its award-winning meals is in the running to be named the region’s best.
Westend Fish and Chips, which takes up a prime spot in Blackburn Road, has been shortlisted alongside nine others for the Lancashire Telegraph’s Best Chippy competition.
Co-owner, Deryn Regan, said the team were delighted to among the top 10.
She said: “We are always glad to be shortlisted in any competition which supports local businesses.
“We are very proud of the staff.
“Any nomination is a testament to the hard work of the staff and the loyal customers.
“We have some regulars who have been coming here for many years, and we are thankful for their support.”
The chippy is no stranger to awards and has been regularly listed as one of the best fish and chip shops in the country.
Earlier this year, it was also one of only two local shops to be named in the Fry Awards.
Deryn said the shop had become an integral part of the local community.
“We have some great friends, and we are always looking to serve the community as best we can.
“It is more of a community hub with people always coming and going.”
As well as the shop's famous fish and chips, the chippy offers a range of meals including pies and even ice cream.
The newly launched ‘One-pot meal’ aims to offer even more variety.
Deryn added: “It is all about catering for different tastes within the family.
“We have had a great response so far. We are always looking for new ideas and aim to do a bit of everything."
This year’s shortlist features 10 chip shops from across East Lancashire, including entries from Blackburn, Accrington, and Burnley.
The winner will be decided by public vote, with customers able to cast their votes by purchasing a copy of the Lancashire Telegraph.
Each finalist will be profiled in the newspaper in the coming days, giving readers the opportunity to discover the stories and people behind the counters.
The winner of the Best Chippy title will be announced later this month.
