A 'huge achievement' is being celebrated by Pendleside Hospice this week as it prepares to open its 10th retail shop in the heart of Burnley.
Its newest charity shop officially opens its doors at Charter Walk Shopping Centre on Friday, June 6.
The launch event gets underway at 10am and members of the public are being invited to join the celebrations and support the latest addition to Pendleside’s growing network of shops.
Visitors can enjoy a spin-the-wheel competition with the chance to win 20 per cent off purchases, meet the hospice’s popular mascot Penny, and watch an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.
The new store represents another important step in helping the hospice continue providing specialist care and support to patients and families across Burnley and Pendle.
David Austin, retail manager at Pendleside Hospice, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be opening our 10th shop right in the centre of Burnley.
“Reaching this milestone is a huge achievement for us and we can’t wait to welcome the community through the doors.”
The hospice currently needs £6.8 million each year to continue delivering its services, with £5.4 million of that total needing to be generated through fundraising, donations, events and retail income.
Its shops play a crucial role in helping fund patient care, with retail operations generating almost £951,000 last year.
That resulted in more than £365,000 being contributed directly towards hospice services and support for local families.
Every item purchased or donated helps fund care for people living with life-limiting illnesses, as well as support for their loved ones.
The new Burnley shop will offer a range of pre-loved clothing, accessories, books and household items, giving shoppers the chance to pick up a bargain while supporting a local cause.
Pendleside is also encouraging residents to continue donating good-quality unwanted items, which can be dropped off at any of its charity shops or at the donation centre based at the hospice.
The opening marks a significant achievement for the hospice’s retail team and reflects the continued support shown by the local community over many years.
Organisers hope the new town centre shop will become a welcoming space for shoppers, while helping raise the vital funds needed to ensure Pendleside Hospice can continue supporting local people when they need it most.
