A Morecambe-based rambling club is inviting people to get outdoors, meet new friends and explore the Lake District with a guided walk this weekend.

Morecambe & District HF Rambling Club will host its next outing on Sunday, June 7, with a series of walks around Langdale, ranging from gentle routes to more challenging mountain climbs.

The club, which is affiliated with HF Holidays and the Rambling Association, aims to promote the enjoyment of the outdoors while encouraging social connections and healthy lifestyles.

Organisers say the group offers a welcoming environment for both experienced walkers and newcomers.

Three walks on offer

Walkers will be able to choose from three routes on the day:

  • A walk (approx. 8 miles, 2,700ft ascent), led by Andy, will tackle Bowfell — the Lake District’s sixth highest peak at 2,959ft. The route begins at New Dungeon Ghyll, climbing via The Band to Three Tarns before reaching the summit, with panoramic views including Scafell Pike.
  • B walk (approx. 8 miles, 1,700ft ascent), led by John, is a linear route starting at Elterwater and following sections of the Cumbria Way through Chapel Stile, Lingmoor Fell and Lingmoor Tarn.
  • C walk (approx. 5.8 miles, 500ft ascent), led by Phil, offers a gentler option, following the Cumbria Way past Side House and Chapel Stile, before returning to Dungeon Ghyll.

Travel and social side

The club provides coach travel to and from the walks, with pick-ups at several locations between Heysham and Carnforth, including Morecambe, Torrisholme, Lancaster, Slyne and Bolton-le-Sands.

Trips are designed to be accessible and sociable, and at the end of each day, walkers have the chance to relax with a drink or a slice of cake before heading home.

The club said it was important to highlight that walks were also dependent on the forecast.

"Walks are always subject to weather conditions and may occasionally be changed, we don’t want to disappoint anyone!"

The group runs alternate weekend and midweek walks, with easier Wednesday routes and more challenging weekend hikes.

It also organises monthly social coach trips and holidays for members who enjoy getting away for longer breaks.

The club is open to anyone interested in trying something new, whether joining regularly or simply giving a walk a go.

Organisers say the aim is simple: "Meet people, get fit and have some fun while enjoying our wonderful countryside all year round."

Membership and travel costs

Annual membership is £10 for adults and £1 for under-16s, payable on joining and then each January.

Coach travel is provided for all walks, with fares set at:

  • £15 for weekend walks (under-16s £7.50)
  • £13 for Wednesday walks (under-16s £7.50)

The club also runs monthly social coach trips, priced at £17 per trip, plus any additional entry costs for attractions where applicable.
