A couple credited with breathing new life into a much‑loved Knott End pub have announced they are stepping down after three years at the helm.
Stuart and Jules (Julie) Ward, who run The Bourne Arms in Knott End‑on‑Sea, Wyre, said last weekend was their last behind the bar as rising costs and health concerns make it impossible to continue.
In an emotional statement shared with customers, they described their time at the pub as "incredible" and paid tribute to the community that had backed them.

They said: "This isn't just a pub; it’s a community, and we’ve been so lucky to call you our customers and friends.
"Your support has meant the world to us, and we are so thankful for every laugh, story, and pint shared across the bar."
However, they said the current economic climate had made it increasingly difficult to keep going. "As many of you know, the current climate is tough," they added.
"Between rising rent, taxes, and general costs, the pressure has become too much to sustain."
The couple also revealed they are facing personal challenges, with Stuart due to undergo a heart operation in the near future, saying: "It's time for us to prioritise his health and our family."
Despite the circumstances, they confirmed The Bourne Arms will remain open, with a new operator already lined up to take over.
"We did receive some good news today: a new operator will be taking over The Bourne," they said. "We wish them nothing but the best with this very special place and its even more special people."
The announcement has prompted an outpouring of support from regulars and locals, many thanking the pair for their efforts in revitalising the pub.
One customer wrote: "Gutted but wish you all the very best."
Another added: "The energy you put into making The Bourne Arms a vibrant pub again will be greatly missed.
"Wishing you all the best."
Others focused on their future, with one saying: "Best wishes for the future, may it bring you both happiness and good health," and another adding: "You will both be missed – thanks for the hard work you have both put in to making it a great success."
