Are you planning a trip to Morecambe soon? The seaside town has been named one of the best in the north of England for a perfect coastal escape, and there’s plenty to get up to.
Conde Nast Traveller included Morecambe in its best northern seaside towns list, and this is how you could spend a day in the Lancashire town.
There’s nothing like strolling along a promenade or wandering on a pier, especially if you can stop for some fish and chips or an ice cream on your way.
How to spend a day in Morecambe
Promenade
Start your morning with a walk along the Promenade, looking out to the Bay.
You should look out for a statue of comedian Eric Morecambe, who was also an ornithologist, with binoculars around his neck, waving to passersby.
Visit Lancashire says: “Unveiled by the Queen in 1999, the slightly larger than life-sized statue depicts Eric Morecambe in one of his characteristic poses with a pair of binoculars around his neck (he was a keen ornithologist).
“The statue is set against the stunning backdrop of Morecambe Bay and the Lake District hills, and people queue to have their photo taken alongside it.
“The statue and the arena below it are equally sensational at night, with superb lighting effects bathing the area.”
TERN trail
To extend your walk, you can complete the TERN trail along the seafront.
On this route, you’ll see “various award-winning sculptures” which reflect “the landmarks and wildlife of the bay”, explains the Lancaster and Morecambe Bay website.
Happy Mount Park
If you’re looking for ways to keep the kids entertained, a visit to Happy Mount Park should do the trick.
There’s a park, play areas, a splash park, soft play plus a cafe for when you need to grab refreshments.
Children can also look forward to bouncing on trampolines and a round of crazy golf.
Food and drink in Morecambe
If you’d like to recharge and enjoy food and drink in the coastal town, there are plenty of options.
From the Bay Cafe to Atkinson’s Fish and Chips, there are lots of places you can find the delicious seaside classic.
If you’re after a cooling treat, you can find ice cream at Brucciani’s Coffee Shop and Ice Cream Parlour, Miogelato, Wallings Ice Cream, and more.
Pubs and bars in Morecambe include Smugglers Den, The Little Bare, The Tide and Tap and more.
