A documentary about Derian House has moved audiences to tears.
The Little Things, an Amazon Prime documentary created by filmmaker Paul Woodward, was screened on May 19 to more than 800 healthcare professionals at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Congress in Liverpool.
The film tells the stories of families supported by Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley and has reached viewers around the world since its release.
Mr Woodward, from Skelmersdale, was inspired to make the documentary after his son Kalel received care at the hospice before his death in 2019.
He said: "Seeing how the film resonated with so many nurses, people who support families like mine every day, really meant a lot, it was incredibly emotional.
"The Little Things is about love, the small moments, and the people who stand beside you through the hardest times.
"To share that with those who truly understand it was very special."
He was joined at a post-screening Q&A by Alison Morris, a clinical educator at Derian House.
Together, they reflected on themes of grief, end-of-life care, and the emotional support needed by families in these situations.
Mr Woodward worked on the documentary with Benidorm actor and writer Steve Pemberton.
Carmel O'Boyle, chair of the council for the RCN, said: "I’m incredibly grateful to Paul for bringing The Little Things to RCN Congress.
"It’s so important that hospice communities like Derian House Children’s Hospice get the recognition they deserve – the compassion and care they provide to families is exceptional.
"This film is a powerful reminder that hospice care is not just about death, but about helping families live as fully as possible."
Since The Little Things, Mr Woodward has released Voice Again, a short film about bereaved fathers supported by Derian House.
He plans to create more documentary shorts to share even more stories from the hospice.

Mr Woodward was recently named a Patron of Derian House in honour of his contributions.
Derian House supports more than 400 babies, children, and young people with life-limiting conditions across the North West.
The charity must raise £6 million to fund its services in 2026, but receives just 30 per cent of its funding from the government.
