A woman has appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with arson following a fire in Avenue Parade, Accrington, on Sunday morning.

Hayley Parker, 31, of Barnes Street, Church, was charged with arson, being reckless whether the life of another would be endangered.

The court heard that curtains and a mattress had been set on fire at a house of multiple occupation on May 17.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client intended to plead guilty to the charge when it came before the Crown Court.
