Morecambe man, 21, cleared after firearms charge vacated

Szymon Zgierski, 21, had been accused of possessing a pistol and was facing a charge of possession of a firearm.

The allegation followed a police search of his room during which officers were said in court to have discovered an imitation firearm, described as "readily convertible".

The Old Bailey had previously heard that police also found items linked to far-right and neo-Nazi groups, including flags.

Mrs Justice Cheema‑Grubb listed a plea hearing for May 15 and a provisional trial date in July, and Mr Zgierski remanded in custody.

However, at the hearing, held on Friday at Preston Crown Court, the charge was formally vacated after the prosecution said it would not be presenting any evidence.
