Seven beaches across Lancashire have been handed prestigious Seaside Awards by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, with Morecambe's two bathing beaches among those recognised for the quality of their coastline.
Morecambe North and South beaches, both managed by Lancaster City Council, are among the latest recipients of the national accolade, which celebrates England's cleanest, safest and best-managed stretches of coastline.
The other five Lancashire beaches to receive the award are St Annes Pier (Fylde Borough Council), Fleetwood Ferry Beach, Fleetwood Marine Beach, Rossall Beach, and Jubilee Beach in Cleveleys.
The awards, announced on May 14, are part of Keep Britain Tidy's annual assessment programme, in which qualified judges visit beaches unannounced during the bathing season to check standards in person.
Beaches are assessed on cleanliness and litter control, safety and first aid provision, environmental management, and water quality, with designated bathing waters required to meet at least the Environment Agency's "sufficient" standard.
Lancaster City Council said: "Great news!

"The awards recognise and award beaches in England that are clean, safe and well-managed."
Keep Britain Tidy's chief executive, Allison Ogden-Newton, said: "England is fortunate to boast some of the world's finest beaches, and it's encouraging to see this reflected in the award, signalling its high standards to all who visit or live nearby.
"Everybody involved in these achievements should feel proud of their ongoing work to care for and enhance these important local blue spaces."
Nationally, 128 sites received honours in 2026, made up of 126 beaches, a marina, and an inland bathing water, with 63 achieving the Blue Flag, the world's most recognised international beach award, and 106 receiving Seaside Awards.

Liverpool's Albert and Salthouse Docks remains the only Blue Flag marina in the country.
The Seaside Award is distinct from the Blue Flag in that it also recognises high-quality beaches that fall outside the formal designated bathing water classification, meaning more stretches of coastline can be celebrated for their standards.
Dog and horse owners are reminded that their animals are banned from Morecambe North and South beaches until September 30, in line with Seaside Award requirements, though other sections of shoreline, from the Battery to Heysham and Green Street breakwater to Hest Bank, remain accessible.
