Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez have issued a wedding update on the latest episode of their podcast.
Edenfield’s Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary president, Gemma Atkinson, has confirmed that she still plans to marry former Strictly Come Dancing professional despite recent light-hearted remarks sparking confusion among fans.
The actress and radio presenter made the clarification on the couple’s Lost In Translation Podcast, 'Are couples healthier when they spend time apart', after jokes about their upcoming wedding were taken out of context.
Gemma said: "We said in one episode on this podcast I had found somewhere in North Yorkshire… the one after we joked we weren’t even getting married because we were getting on each other’s [nerves]."
Gorka, who is currently on tour with Strictly Come Dancing, urged fans to take their comments in context.
He said: "People need to know what is banter and sarcasm.
"We are getting married. We will get married.
"It’s annoying, we are grateful everyone listens to us, but you wake up the next day from messages from family saying we saw this in the papers, are you not getting married?"
The couple, who met during the 2017 series of Strictly Come Dancing, have been engaged since Valentine’s Day 2021 and have two children together.
Gemma said she received hateful comments from some people on social media after the confusion.
She said: “A listener asked us if we were getting married and I said ‘I am never marrying him’ but it's because we were having jokes and banter about it beforehand. If you had listened to the podcast, you’d get that.
“People messaged me saying ‘he doesn’t deserve you. You are so cold you’re so nasty’. It’s like ‘no! Listen to the full episode’”.

She said: "None of us want a big fuss or lots of guests so we may just go and do it with just family and come back and have a huge party!
"I've never wanted a big white wedding.
"More than happy with a lovely small one.
"We feel married anyway."
