A family-run business is aiming to help homes tackle unpleasant odours with upcoming changes to bin collections.

Bin Buddy is part of the Challs International Group, founded, owned and run by Graham Burchell.

A deodorising powder, Bin Buddy is designed to control odours in indoor and outdoor bins.

The firm is spotlighting the product as recent changes to waste collection rules come into force in England.

Rules now require weekly collection of food waste and less frequent pick-up of other bins, including councils in Lancashire.

The regulation changes are part of new legislation that came into force on March 31 and aim to improve recycling rates by separating different types of household waste.

Under the new system, residents must use separate bins for food waste, garden waste, paper and card, other dry recyclables (such as glass, metal, plastic and cartons), and residual waste.

Not all councils are prepared to implement the collections immediately, with many aiming to begin the new service by June or later.

Graham Burchell, founder of Challs International, said: "We developed Bin Buddy over 15 years ago to tackle a growing problem with smelly bins, which affect all homes.

"Our bin deodorising powders are the UK number one bin care range.

"Made in the UK and now sold around the world."

Each household will receive a lockable 23-litre food waste bin for outdoor use and a smaller five-litre caddy for the kitchen, designed for daily use on worktops or under sinks.

With the addition of food waste bins and a move to less frequent collection of other waste, there is concern that bin odours will increase—especially during warmer weather.

Mr Burchell said: "Many households will be new to having their food waste collected and their other bin services moving to once every three weeks, and so with it much smellier bins than before.

"This is where our Bin Buddy bin deodorising powders will help as they will control smells, soak up liquid and fragrance all smelly bins.

"With summer fast approaching the need for Bin Buddy deodorising powders is paramount.

"We all know too well how much smellier bins are in the summer with the heat and so they need a helping hand.

"We here at Bin Buddy want more people to know about Bin Buddy, so that we can help combat their smelly bins."

Food waste bins are emptied weekly, but other bins—including those for garden waste and dry recyclables—are now on a three or four-week rotation.

This less frequent collection schedule could lead to increased odours, pests, and general discomfort for households, especially during periods of hot weather.

Bin Buddy, which can be used daily in both indoor and outdoor bins, is designed to absorb liquid spills and neutralise odours.

A spokesperson for the brand said the powder is biodegradable and 'safe for use' in all recycling systems.

The product has gained a following on social media, including Mrs Sophie Hinch and Lynsey Crombie - Queen of Clean.

It has also been featured on ITV’s This Morning.

The powder is available at retailers including Morrisons, The Range, Robert Dyas, Ocado, Amazon, and others.

Challs International, founded in 1990 by Mr Burchell, is a family business that produces a variety of cleaning products under brands such as Buster and Bin Buddy.
