A man who stole £80 worth of chocolate bars from Asda has been jailed after trying to sell them to a plain-clothed police officer.
Curtis Brooks, 32, of no fixed address, took the chocolate from the Hyndburn Road store in Accrington on Thursday, April 16.
Around an hour later, he approached a plain-clothed officer on Church Street and offered to sell the stolen chocolate at a discount price.
Brooks was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop.
On April 17, he appeared at Blackburn Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to theft, breaching a restraining order which is unrelated to the theft offence, and breaching a previously imposed suspended prison sentence.
He was jailed for 26 weeks.
A police spokesperson said: "Last week, we told you that a man had been arrested after he offered to sell stolen chocolate…to a plain-clothed police officer.
"The sweet-toothed thief is now serving a prison sentence following a court appearance.
"At 7am last Thursday (16th April), Curtis Brooks stole £80 worth of chocolate bars from Asda on Hyndburn Road, Accrington. Around an hour later, Brooks approached a plain-clothed officer in Church Street, Accrington, and offered them the chocolate for sale at a considerable discounted price.
"The officer arrested Brooks on suspicion of theft from a shop.On 17th April, Brooks, 32, of no fixed address, appeared before Blackburn Magistrates Court.
"He pleaded guilty to theft, breaching a restraining order which is unrelated to the theft offence, and breaching a previously imposed suspended prison sentence.
"The magistrates jailed Brooks for 26 weeks."
