A teenage boy has pleaded guilty to a charge of arson following a fire at a Lancashire nightclub.

Police arrested and charged a 16-year-old boy following a fire at the Park Hall nightclub in Charnock Richard on Tuesday night (April 7).

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court yesterday (April 9) where he pleaded guilty to arson.

He was bailed ahead of a sentencing hearing at the same court on May 21.

The owners of the club, which is in the grounds the Park Hall hotel just off the M6, said damage to the club was less severe than first thought after a fire started in the upstairs offices.

A club spokesperson said: "We are devastated to share that there was a fire last night, located in the offices above our venue.

"While areas have been significantly affected, the nightclub itself has sustained less damage than was first thought.

"We will look at beginning restoration as soon as possible and hope to reopen in the near future."

Ten fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms were at the scene on Tuesday night, going into Wednesday morning (April 8).

Images from the scene showed large flames coming from the nightclub building, which is in a complex alongside a leisure centre and gym.

A spokesperson for the hotel said the hotel and spa remained open and have not been affected.

They said: "We are incredibly relieved that everyone is safe, and our thoughts are with all those involved."

A joint investigation into the blaze was launched by the police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service on Wednesday.
