You can now find the UK’s best tiramisu in Burnley after a local bistro scooped a top national award.

Bellissimo Italian was crowned ‘Best Tiramisu’ at the 9th Italian Awards, held in London.

The award followed a detailed judging process, where chef and owner Giovanni Scidetta, known to regulars as John, created a traditional tiramisu and submitted a video demonstration, before the dessert was taste-tested by an official judge during a visit to the restaurant.

John makes the tiramisu from scratch, including homemade gluten-free savoiardi biscuits, with careful tempering of the eggs before adding mascarpone, forming a key part of the traditional method.

Speaking after the win, co-owner Lynn Scibetta said: “The real star behind this achievement is our incredible owner and chef, Giovanni.

"His passion, dedication, and love for authentic Italian food and desserts shine through in everything he makes.

"Every single day, come rain or shine, he gives 100 per cent to our bistro, crafting dishes made with heart… and you can truly taste the difference.

“We may not be the fanciest restaurant, but John’s food does all the talking... and the proof is in the pudding.”

Bellissimo Italian, in Parker Lane, is co-owned and managed by Lynn Scibetta and her husband, John, whose culinary background spans Italy, France, and the UK.

John and his family are from Sicily, where he trained in hotels and restaurants before moving to France to further develop his skills in French cuisine.

After relocating to the UK with his family, he went on to gain a Master Baker’s degree as well as a teaching qualification in catering.

Together, Lynn and John have built a café known for its homemade pizzas, pasta and desserts, drawing on John’s varied experience to create a menu rooted in traditional Italian cooking.
