A newly refurbished community sports hub is now fully operational in Lancashire.

Wyre Council has completed upgrades to the former Cottam Hall Pavilion to improve facilities for clubs and visitors in Poulton-le-Fylde.

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the scheme has created a modern, accessible sports hub to support community use and the long-term growth of local sports clubs.

Councillor Lynne Bowen, portfolio holder for leisure, health and community engagement at Wyre Council, said: "Completing the refurbishment of Cottam Hall Pavilion is an important step in strengthening our sports provision and supporting the many clubs and community groups who rely on this space.

"We’re proud to deliver a facility that meets modern standards and reflects the needs of our growing sporting community."

Wyre Cricket Club now holds the lease for the refurbished pavilion and will manage the facility.

Tom McMurdo, chairman of Wyre Cricket Club, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Wyre Council and for the funding from the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund for helping deliver the project.

"This new home represents more than just a pavilion for Wyre Cricket Club, it gives us a platform to grow and to build for the future.

"Just as importantly, we are committed to making this a welcoming community asset that brings people together both on and off the field."

Key improvements include an extended, more accessible entrance and terrace. The area creates a new spectator viewing area.

Work saw the building undergo a full internal refurbishment to ensure the building meets current regulations.

The sports hub now features a new members’ meeting area, refurbished kitchen, modernised changing rooms and WCs, and an accessible bathroom and wet room.

There are also dedicated referees’ rooms and upgraded storage, plant and service areas.

Wyre Council said the improvements would benefit players, officials, volunteers and visitors.

The refurbishment supports the council’s Place and Climate, and People and Communities priorities.

These include improving indoor and outdoor leisure facilities and providing high-quality open spaces for all residents and visitors to enjoy.

The pavilion is now fully operational and will welcome teams and visitors for the upcoming season.
