The University of Lancashire has partnered with Soul Padel to propose four new community padel courts at its sports arena, aiming to boost access to the fast-growing sport for students, staff and the public.
The project is subject to planning approval from Preston City Council.
Jimmy Khan, head of sport and active wellbeing at the University of Lancashire, said: "We’re excited to hopefully welcome Soul Padel to our Preston Campus as part of our commitment to supporting innovative, inclusive sport.
"These four courts would enhance our sporting offering for every student and staff member, but they would also help us going forward when British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS), the UK’s national governing body of university sport, adopts padel as an official sport.
"In addition, these new facilities would provide a fun way for our local community to get active and socialise."
The £600,000 project would see the courts built on the site of two existing tennis courts near the arena’s reception area.
The courts would feature artificial grass and a tempered glass enclosure, and be covered by a canopy roof with floodlights for year-round use.

The Soul Padel on Campus programme launched at Loughborough University in March 2025 with two courts, which opened at 100% occupancy and consistently maintained that level throughout the first month.
The investment at the University of Lancashire includes a minimum 10-year commitment from Soul Padel.
