Search the Public Notice PortalA retrospective planning application has been submitted to keep using a former household waste recycling depot in Langho as a coach storage yard, with a welfare unit and jet wash on site.
A planning statement lodged with Ribble Valley Borough Council sets out proposals for the former recycling depot off Longsight Road, near Whalley Road, which is currently being used to store up to five coaches.
The brownfield site, once run by Lancashire County Council as a household waste centre, now operates under Orrell’s Coach Hire Limited.
The application seeks permission for open-air storage of vehicles, along with the retention of a steel container adapted as a welfare unit and a jet wash.
The welfare cabin is used for storage and will also provide a toilet and washbasin, with all administration carried out off-site at the applicant’s home.

According to the statement, four coaches would be in regular use with a fifth kept as a standby, with the business supporting three full-time and four part-time jobs.
The site is surrounded by housing, Petre Garage, other commercial yards, and the A59 roundabout embankment, and lies just outside the settlement boundaries of Langho and Billington in land designated as open countryside.
A noise impact assessment has been submitted, and the planning statement says the use would be acceptable in terms of residential amenity if conditions are imposed on operating hours, pressure washing times and the number of coaches.
It argues the yard is well screened by high walls and fences, that vehicle movements are relatively low and mostly between 7am and 7pm, and that the site has safe access with room for coaches to turn within the yard.
The statement concludes the proposal complies with local planning policies supporting small-scale employment uses on brownfield land near the A59 corridor and should be approved.
